Helen H. DeVol, 99, long time resident of Old Mission passed away peacefully at her home on March 19, 2022.
Helen was born on September 4, 1922 in Detroit to the late Harry and Hilda (Morgan) Carson.
On July 11, 1944 she married Robert DeVol in Greensboro, N.C. while he was stationed there during his time in the service with the Army Air Force.
Robert and Helen moved to Old Mission in 1944. She was one of the original members of the Old Mission Women's Club and enjoyed her membership for the past 76 years. She also was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was the eldest remaining parishioner.
Helen was the post master for Old Mission for 25 years. She and Robert also owned and operated Lardie's Grocery, now known as Old Mission General Store for 27 years.
In her free time she enjoyed gardening and reading. Above all else, Helen was an amazing mom, grandma, great grandma and great great grandma. She loved spending time with all of the kids and neighbor kids. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Robert, sisters Jean and Harriet and brother Ernest; son-in-law Dennis and grandson Abraham.
Helen is survived by her sons Robert (Betty) DeVol and John (Pam) DeVol; daughters Nancy Habedank and Patricia (Jim) Trnka; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday April 9, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior. The rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am.
Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
