Ida Jean Rumbach Thompson

July 16, 1930 - May 8, 2022

Ida Jean Rumbach Thompson, 91, of Traverse City passed away May 8, 2022 at Traverse Manor. Ida was born in Traverse City to the late Amil and Mildred (Newstead) Rumbach July 16, 1930 graduating from Traverse City High School in the Class of 1948. She married the late Eugene L. Thompson at the Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City. Ida lived in the Garden City area for many years and worked for Western Union and Eaton Corp. in the Southfield Research Center as a devoted secretary for 24 years. After work she enjoyed coming home to her pool, a beer and the peace and quiet. She enjoyed hosting many pool parties and spending time with her large family. Retirement brought them back to Traverse City. In her spare time she and Eugene were lifetime members of the VFW and Ida was in the Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to the Casino, going to Bob Evans for Crepes, China Fair for Christmas eve dinner, playing scrabble and Euchre. Surviving Ida are her siblings, James (Kay) Rumbach, Thomas (Connie) Rumbach, many nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews and many friends . Also, her two adopted, beloved cats, Chester and Charlie were very special to her, filling out her last years. Ida is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, her sisters Helen Schulte and Victoria Zoulek and her German Shepard's Duke and King. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 2:30pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society or H.A.N.D.D.S rescue.
