James "Jim" Henry Roos

February 17, 1952 - May 30, 2021

James Henry (Jim) Roos, passed away Sunday May 30, 2021. He was born on February 17, 1952 in Ann Arbor, MI to George Douglas Roos and Jean Louise (Cartwright) Roos. Jim graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in 1970 where he was a student athlete that excelled in swimming and was named to the All American Team. He continued his education at Eastern Michigan University on an athletic scholarship for swimming where he was again named to the All American Team while he pursued his degree in Education. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Education from EMU and years later would add a Master of Arts in Curriculum Education from Michigan State University. He taught at Owasso high school for several years before pursuing a career in the pastoral ministry. After ten years of serving as a minister, Jim returned to his teaching roots and would go on to teach for another 21 years at Forest Area High School. He retired in 2019. Jim met the love of his life, Libby Gardner, at Fraser’s Pub in Ann Arbor. They would go on to travel the United States (living in Michigan, Mississippi, Alabama, Indiana, and Tennessee before returning to Michigan) while raising their family and shared 42 wonderful years of marriage together. Jim was known for his sense of humor that could so often break down barriers and forge new friendships. He will be remembered as a loving father, doting grandfather, trusted friend, and a truly exemplary human being. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, George and Jean Roos, his wife Elizabeth (Libby) Gardner Roos, and his daughter Marie Elizabeth Roos. He is survived by his children Catharine Roos (Laura Buehler), Matthew Roos, and his grandchildren Henry Von Buehler and Jacquelynn Marie Buehler. The family is being cared for by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Cremation has taken place and a small family service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting any donations be made to the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation: https://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
