Janet Hoxie

August 27, 1931 - July 27, 2021

Janet Louise Hoxie, 89, of Traverse City, passed away July 27, 2021, with family by her side and peace in her heart. Janet was born on August 27, 1931 to the late Frederic and Vivian (Sherrard) Jahr. In June of 1952 she married Francis Donald Hoxie, with whom she shared a loving marriage for 47 years. Janet was a full-time homemaker and she taught her children much about cooking and gardening, as these were two passions in her life. Each summer, she was sure to watch the Tour de France and was an avid supporter of the 2004 NBA Champion Detroit Pistons. She enjoyed a good book and would welcome the opportunity to read a special story to her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and wife and an exceptional grandmother. Janet is survived and missed dearly by her children Frederic (Charlene) Hoxie and Alison Collins; grandchildren Lindsay, Benjamin (Justine Lozowski), and Emily (Tom Stallman) Hoxie, and Hayley and Joel Collins; great-grandchildren Harper and Frankie Hoxie, Sophia Eustice, and Justine's daughter, Violet; sister Lois Pickard; beloved cousin Dolores (David) Ballesteros; and dear friend Bette Wattles. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter Morgan Collins, as well a numerous pets that she now joins in a glorious reunion. A memorial service honoring Janet will take place at 11:00am in the Gardens of Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Tuesday August 3, 2021. Those wishing an expression of sympathy may choose to contribute to Central United Methodist Church of Traverse City in Janet’s honor where she was a long-time member and church friend to many. Janet and her family are being cared for by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
