Joan Lorene Arntson, 80, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Munson Medical Center. Joan was born on September 29, 1938 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Valette and Cassie (Peck) Dick. She married the love of her life, Dale Arntson on July 25, 1970. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2005. Joan and Dale moved to Northern Michigan in 1972. She had been employed as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, until her retirement in 2000. Among her other interests, Joan enjoyed reading, cooking and going to the casino. Above all, spending time with her family was Joan's greatest joy, especially with her favorite grandson Xander.
Joan is survived by a daughter; Cheryl Thayer, a son, Rich Arntson, a daughter, Karla Arntson and a grandson, Xander Arntson-Thayer. Also surviving are a brother, Jerry (Judy) Dick and sister-in-law, Sharon Dick.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Dick.
A funeral service honoring Joan will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Pastor Chris Emery will officiate. Burial will be in Benzonia Township Cemetery.
