Joan. A Gilhooly of Traverse City, Michigan, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 16th, 2023. She was born to Anthony E. and Mary A. Kesslak on August 13th, 1931, in Johnston, Pennsylvania. Joan was the ninth of twelve children. She graduated from Ferndale Highschool in Johnston Pennsylvania and went to nursing school at Mt. Caramel Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

She went on to get her master's degree from Wayne State University and worked as a CRNA for many years. She worked as an adjunct professor for Wayne State University and was a nurse of necessities at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak until she retired in 1990. She was married to Walter Bruce Gilhooly on August thirty-first, 1957, and they enjoyed fifty-two years together. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and learning. In her younger life she enjoyed golfing, hunting, gardening, and fishing.

Joan is survived by her son Michael J. Gilhooly, five grandchildren: Joseph D. Gilhooly (Alyse Allen), Sara E. Gilhooly (Vance Hoskin), Kathryn M. Gilhooly (Richard Marowsky and their four children), Keenan M. Sanford (Kristin LeMar and their child), and Emily R-C. Gilhooly (Kevin Rose and their two children). She is also survived by her brother William Kesslak and sister Rose Lill and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and six sisters, her daughter Dr. Karen L. Gilhooly and granddaughter Rowan M. Sanford, daughter-in law Debra S. Gilhooly, and her husband of fifty-two years Walter B. Gilhooly
