FIFE LAKE — Joan Ruth Vanover, 77, formerly of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, June 24, at her daughter's residence, with family by her side. Joan was born on Feb. 3, 1933, in Caro, to Edwin and Goldie (Faedie) Poppe. After finishing Caro High School, she worked as a bookkeeper with Grand Traverse County.Joan had spent many of her winters in Haines, Fla. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and will be missed by all her friends.Joan is survived by her son, Thomas (Sandra) Harmon of Grand Rapids; her daughter, Deborah (Rick) Leach of Fife Lake; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brothers, Herbert (Barbara) Poppe and Richard (Joyce) Poppe; and her sister, Arlene Hutchinson. She also leaves four stepchildren, several step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.Besides her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Harmon and Phillip Vanover.Visitation will be held today, June 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Bereavement Counselor, Pam Wizner will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.Memorial donations can be directed to American Cancer Society or Mercy Hospice of Cadillac.
