Joanie Mack Kunnath, age 57, died peacefully at her home on March 11, 2023. She was the youngest daughter of Esther Mack and the late Thomas Mack. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Kunnath.
Joanie was graduate of Traverse City Central High School and was a proud member of the varsity pom-pom squad. She earned her bachelor degree from Central Michigan University, where she also earned a spot on the Chipette dance team. She never missed a chance to dance, especially on the bow of their boat on West Bay, with her sisters and friends. Her joy and laughter were a gift to all who knew her. Joanie brightened up any room!
She and her husband had a successful contracting business for many years. They travelled the world and particularly enjoyed spending winters in Hawaii, and later at their condo in Mexico. Many of her family and friends can claim to have enjoyed sunny winter holidays with Joanie's infectious love for life and spicy food.
She will be especially missed by her sisters Sue Vance (Blake), and Nan (Mark) Dancer, and brother-in-law Glen (Dana) Kunnath. She was the favorite Aunt to her nieces and nephews: Brady (Heather), Mackenzie, and Lily Vance, Spencer Mack, Mickey DeLucia, Max, and Addison Kunnath. Joanie was a loving and generous aunt, and much loved by her nieces and nephews.
Joanie leaves behind many Harbor West boating friends, high school and college friends, and life-experience friends, especially sister-friend Krista Allgaier. Joanie and her mother, Esther, shared a special bond throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to AA or an addiction treatment center of your choice. A celebration of Joanie's life will be held on May 21 from 1 - 3 at the Yacht Club.
