June 15, 1943 - December 27, 2021
Kenneth “Ken” E. Rathke, 78, of Traverse City, passed away December 27, 2021. He was born June 15, 1943, in Monroe, MI, son to Golda (Reid) and Ellsworth Rathke. Among many hobbies and interests, Ken was known best for his love of whitetail hunting and virtually any type of fishing. Ken’s only real enemies in life were red squirrels. He was an antique car collector, earning the impressive and rare title of Grand National Judge, with the Antique Automobile Club of America. This distinction was one of a small few both nationally and internationally. Ken was also an excellent trumpet player, starting with a band from his younger years called the Dundee Scotts. In the early 1970’s Ken moved to the Traverse City area to be closer to his children. He owned and operated numerous businesses upon moving to the area. He ultimately retired from the State of Michigan as an accountant. Ken is survived by his wife Rebecca Roche Rathke; children Brian (Lisa), Todd (Mary), Kevin and Kelly (Robert) Fouch; grandchildren Maggie and Katie Rathke, Wesley and Claudia Rathke, Matthew and Faith Young and Jordan Rathke; his aunt, Mary Reid; close cousin David Reid; best friend Tony Ryan, in addition to other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gary, and uncle, Jim Reid. There will be a private family celebration of life at a future date. Ken and his family are being cared for by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute page, www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com
