Kirtland J. Wenzel of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away at home on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born the youngest of three children to Frank and Constance (Erickson) Wenzel on February 1, 1940.

Kirt was a lifelong resident of Traverse City. He graduated from Central High School in 1958 and earned an Associates of Mechanical Drawing and Architecture from Ferris State University. Until his retirement, Kirt had a long and happy career in auto sales.

Kirt was married to Helen (Sayler) for 61 years—an anniversary celebrated last August.

Kirt loved spending time in his garage, making sure his antique cars were ready to go out on the town. On Mondays, he and Helen would go to Old Car Night at Culver's. They also went on Thursday night cruises around the Leelanau Peninsula with their close friends, and often attended car shows all over Northern Michigan— a tradition he and Helen enjoyed almost every weekend.

Kirt also enjoyed spending his time outside in the years and enjoying their view. He loved watching all the activity going on outside their living room windows.

Kirt is survived by his beloved wife Helen A. (Sayler) Wenzel; daughter Sherry (Josh) Sprenger; grandchildren Alexandra and Nathaniel Sprenger; many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and other beloved members of the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wey Wenzel; and sister Marlyn "Molly" Ramoie.

The family would like to thank the staff at Comfort Keepers for all their support during his last week at home with 24-hour care.

A memorial service will be celebrated by Pastor Chris Lane at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, Michigan, 49684. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service.
