Lucille Joy Spohn

October 11, 1938 - November 16, 2020

Lucille Joy Spohn, 82, of Cedar passed away peacefully Monday, November 16, 2020 at her home. She was surrounded by the love of her family and now is home with the Lord and her family that went ahead of her. Lucy was born on Tuesday, October 11, 1938 to the late Floyd Alvin and Luella Annella (Froats) Wheeler in Empire. She married Donald Wesley Spohn on Feb. 1, 1956 in Bridgeport and he preceded her in death October 12, 1993. A lifelong resident of Michigan, with the exception of a few years in Pennsylvania, Lucy had lived in the Saginaw and Clio areas prior to coming back to her roots here in Northern Michigan. Lucy was never idle and was always busy with a project. She loved to crochet and had made many items for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many others. She had been a member of the Red Hat Society and also was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Traverse City. Lucy was very active in mission work, especially in Mexico. She loved to collect knick-knacks as well as shopping for jewelry, shoes and purses. Lucy never wore anything that wasn't totally coordinated. She loved her Folgers coffee and was known to go through two pots of it a day. More than anything, Lucy loved her family and enjoyed anytime she could spend with them. Surviving Lucy is her children, Linda D. (Jeffrey C.) Arnold of Richardson, TX, Donald W. Spohn, Jr. and Theodore F. (Charlotte R.) Spohn, both of Traverse City; her grandchildren, Aubrey Joy (Pastor Marco) Murillo of Richardson, TX, Stephanie (John) Begg of Prosper, TX, Theodore (Bear) F. (Angie) Spohn, Sr. of FL and her great grandchildren, Annika, Ellery, Elisabet, Santiago, Sophia and Theodore Jr. She was also a mom and grandmother to Mary, Chris, Claressa and Christian lll Leach. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her twin brother, Louis Wheeler; sisters, Mary Ann Baatz and Louise Carothers; brothers, Frances Baatz and Thomas Wheeler. Visitation for Lucy will take place from 12 noon until 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020 at Bible Baptist Church, 1915 Cass Rd., Traverse City. The funeral service celebrating Lucy's life will begin at 1 p.m., also at the church. Pastors Joel Brown and Steve Dodd will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Face masks and social distancing guidelines will be enforced. The family has asked the memorial contributions be directed to The American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans.
