Obituary

Marilyn Kay (Pascoe) Clear passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023 at her home in Traverse City, Michigan surrounded by family after a long battle with progressive supra nuclear palsy. Marilyn was born to Milton and Virginia (Crothers) Pascoe on September 16, 1944. She was born during World War II, and during the first two years of her life, she was raised by her mother while her father was in Germany bravely fighting for the freedoms and liberties we are privileged to enjoy today. Marilyn graduated from Negaunee High School in 1962 as class Valedictorian. She played the piano and cello, was a member of the cheerleading team, and was Miss Marquette County. She was proud of her Upper Peninsula friends and heritage.

After graduation, she headed south to Adrian College and earned a teaching degree in Spanish and English in 1966. There, she met the love of her life, Michael James Clear from Toledo, Ohio. They were married on August 21, 1965, and their 57-year marriage was a beautiful example of love, respect, and honor to all who knew them. Mike and Marilyn started their life in Jackson, Michigan where they taught at St. John High School. While living in Jackson, they were blessed with their two children, Kim and Michael. They then spent a few years in Coleman, Michigan, and eventually settled in Mason, Michigan for 37 years. Marilyn earned her Master's Degree in Counseling at Michigan State University and worked as a counselor at Charlotte Junior High School and then for 18 years at Mason High School. During her career, she helped hundreds of students navigate their adolescent years with caring, encouragement, and compassion.

Fourteen years ago, Mike and Marilyn moved to Traverse City to be close to their children and grandchildren. They went to every sporting event, concert, and recital, and were their grandchildren's biggest fans. Marilyn enjoyed reading, biking, boating, playing bridge, and baking. She was famous for her 'no-run' strawberry pie, lemon bars, and gigantic Upper Peninsula Pasties. She loved snow days from school, going to Florida for spring break with Clear relatives as well as trips to Mackinac Island and all around Upper Michigan with family and dear friends from Mason. Mike and Marilyn were members of Immaculate Conception Parish.

Of all her accomplishments, however, she was most loved as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always there for anyone who needed her with a compassionate ear or helping hand. She is survived by her husband Michael Clear, sister Marcia (Butch) Harlamert, children Kim and Monty Hegewald, Michael and Kim Clear, grandchildren Abby Clear, Nick Clear, Anna Marie Clear, Kaitlyn (Mark) Kennedy, Michael Hegewald, Tom Hegewald, Colleen Hegewald, and numerous nieces and nephews.

May she rest in peace surrounded by God's love.

A Mass of Christian burial honoring Marilyn, will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 308 Cedar Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
