Mark Hisem, age 69, of Traverse City, passed away on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024 following a battle with cancer.
Mark was born and raised in Northeast Ohio. After memorable years on the football, basketball, and track teams he graduated from high school and enrolled in the Business School at Ferris State University. During his freshman year he started working part time at the new McDonalds restaurant across the street from the college. Mark graduated from Ferris with his business degree and continued to work for the Steckley family and their McDonalds restaurants for 39 years. During that time, he moved his family from Big Rapids to Traverse City where he retired.
Mark's family was very special to him and he spent as much time as possible with them. Mark was a proud father of 4 boys and coached many of their baseball teams through the years. That love of baseball carried through to his favorite team the Cleveland Indians (yes, the Indians), and for years went to Florida with his brother to see spring training games. A true Buckeye fan his entire life, he relished his long "discussions" with his Michigan friends. His pug, Brutus, was a great companion and friend during his retirement.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Delphine Hisem. He is survived by his children Martin (Jennifer) Hisem, Ryan Hisem, Gabriel Hisem, Logan Hisem; grandchildren Makada, Mia, Mason, Owen; brother Jeff (Leesa) Hisem; nieces Beth Hisem, Abby (Kevin) Kaselak; grandnephew and niece Kolton and Kerrigan Kaselak.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday November 18th, 2024, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home 305 6th Street Traverse City. Family will welcome visitors an hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Cherryland Humane Society.
