Martha Lynne Maltby

April 21, 1943 - May 22, 2021

On May 22nd, 2021, Martha (Marti) Lynne (Gidos) Maltby passed away at French Manor in Traverse City, under the care of Hospice of Michigan. Marti was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on April 21st, 1943 to John and Tyne Marie Gidos. She grew up in Ann Arbor, graduating from Pioneer High School in 1961. She attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1965 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and remained an avid Michigan and Detroit Tigers fan for life. She was a devoted nurse and worked in every capacity from charge nurse, to nurse-aid instructor, to Director of Nursing, until her retirement. She spent her entire life caring for others, both at work and through many quiet acts of kindness to people in need. She met her husband Ely Maltby III in Cheboygan, Michigan, and married him in August of 1966 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. They raised their three children in Cheboygan on Black River, providing them with countless happy memories, deep family roots, great educational opportunities, and wings that continue to take them as far as they desire. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Gidos and his wife Sandy, and her husband Ely. She will be remembered fondly by her children Julie (Tim) Puckett, Heidi (Mark) Skodack, and Aaron (Lucinda) Maltby for her humor, her amazing cooking, and her devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren Megan and Abby Puckett, and Claire, Hannah, Brooke, Elly, and Andrew Maltby. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 29th, at 11am at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan, with visitation from 10-11am. Because Marti dedicated her life to the health of others and to comply with church regulations, masks and social distancing will be required. Marti’s family would like to thank the staff of French Manor for her care over the last six years. A special thank you is sent to the staff at French Manor Extended Care where Marti lived the last year of her life as well as to Hospice of Michigan.
