Martin James Ghastin

May 22, 1930 - March 15, 2020

Martin “Marty” James Ghastin entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 15, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida surrounded by his loving family. He was 89. Marty was born on May 22, 1930 in Traverse City to parents James and Bridget Ghastin (née Brzezinski). He was one of six children. Marty attended St. Francis High School and graduated in 1948. While in school he met the love of his life Bernice A. Buchan. They were united in marriage on September 17, 1949 and celebrated seventy years of marriage and the birth of their four children: Patrick, Robert, LouAnn, and Michele. Marty honorably served our country in the United States National Guard. Martin’s vocation as an international purchaser and store opener with K-Mart took him all across the world as he traveled for work. An avid golfer, Marty was active country clubs in Traverse City and Bradenton, FL and also was an active member with St. Joseph Catholic Church. Martin Ghastin is survived by his sons Patrick Ghastin and Robert Ghastin; daughters LouAnn Hale and Michele (Billy) Butler; brother Jack Ghastin and sister Mary Worm; grandchildren Derrek Hale and Heather Hale. Marty is united in Heaven with his wife of seventy years Bernice; his parents James and Bridget; brothers Burl Ghastin and Jim Ghastin; and sister Theresa Richards. Funeral services are pending at this time and will be announced at a later date. Martin will be laid to rest next to his wife at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
