Mary Ann Dedenbach

December 23, 1931 - May 6, 2022

Mary Ann Dedenbach, 90, entered into eternal rest May 6, 2022. Mary Ann was born in 1931 to the late Richard and Mary (Schannenk) Charboneau in Cheboygan, MI. She grew up on the family farm. In 1953 she graduated from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, MI and began a many years’ career as a nurse working at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital and Emmet County Medical Care Facility. In 1954 she married Martin Dedenbach and they were happily married for 36 years until his passing in 1990. After retirement, Mary Ann spent her days doing as she did as a nurse, selflessly serving. She volunteered her time at a homeless soup kitchen in Washington DC, Florida Home for Women in St Augustine, FL, Christian Appalachian Project in Eastern Kentucky and Missouri Senior Care Center. It allowed her the opportunity to give with a purpose and travel a bit too. Once relocating to Traverse City to be closer to her family, she continued her volunteer time with the Senior Companion Program, the Grandparents Program and at Immaculate Conception School as well as Oak Park Headstart in the classroom and Cheboygan Inverness School. When Mary Ann wasn’t giving with her service acts, she would spend her time in her vegetable garden, baking breads and pies or going for rides often ending up at an ice-cream shop for a treat. A mass to honor Mary Ann will take place on Tuesday May 17, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Francis Catholic Church. Visitation will take place from 10am until the beginning of Mass. Mary Ann’s final resting place will be Calvary Cemetery in Cheboygan on Friday June 24, 2022, joining her parents, her husband, siblings Richard and Theresa and infant son Joseph. Mary Ann is survived and missed dearly by her children; Mary and Joseph Vaughn, Deborah and Jerry Deering, Erik Dedenbach, Colleen Dedenbach and Kevin Dedenbach. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as special family friend Jean Sommers and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Grand Traverse Commission On Aging and Hospice of Michigan and Bright Star for their kindness and care giving. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to St. Francis Food Pantry in Mary Ann's honor. Mary Ann and her family are being cared for by the Reynold Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
