Mary Kay Dohm
July 30, 1960 - May 8, 2021
Mary Kay Dohm, age 60, passed away May 8, 2021 at her home in Traverse City, Michigan. She was born July 30, 1960 in Shelbyville, Indiana to Donald and Dorothy Pence—the fifth of seven children. She attended Southwestern High School, received her B.S. in Business Management from Ball State University, and her dental degree from IUPUI. She married Steve Dohm on April 30, 1994 in Carmel, Indiana. Mary was a dental hygienist with Vincent Mack DDS Complete Dental Care where she worked since moving to Traverse City. Mary was a beautiful, strong willed woman who loved her friends and family with all her heart—those who knew her might even say to a fault. She enjoyed skiing, singing, and traveling—especially when doing so with family. She was unrelenting, stubborn, and strong. She set the bar in her loved ones’ eyes for what it meant to be authentically good. Her response to her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer was one of kindness, patience, and grace, as if she was the one providing the care not receiving it. She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Dorothy (Terpstra) Pence. She is survived by her husband Steve, her sons Tyler (Kelsey Dyer) and Nathan; her sisters Susan Chiddister (Bob), Cohutta, Georgia, and Jean Ann Myers (Bob), Plainfield, Indiana; her brothers Joe Pence (Sharon), Avon, Indiana, Tom Pence (Yvonne), Rockville, Indiana, Tim Pence (Susan), Edinburgh, Indiana, and Tom “Pedro” Pence, Edinburgh, Indiana. Due to COVID-19 related restriction as well as Mary's personal wishes a private gathering will be held to celebrate her life and memory. Mary's family has asked that those wishing to honor her memory do so by supporting awareness of and research into pancreatic cancer. Donations can be made in her name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network support.pancan.org/goto/marydohm
