Mary Angeline Whipp, age 71, of Traverse City, Michigan, died on Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by her family. Mary was born on September 28, 1950 to the late Russell J. and Betty M. (Ames) Solberg.

Mary was the middle child of five children and grew up on the family farm in Elk Rapids, Michigan. She was a graduate of Elk Rapids High School and worked many interesting jobs. She was most proud of the 20+ years she spent as cashier at Oryana Co-op. After having memorized the PLU numbers in the produce department, she retired from the position of head cashier in 2019.

She married the love of her life, Michael E. Whipp, on August 21, 1971. Mary was proud to reach an amazing milestone of 50 years of marriage last year. Mary loved spending time traveling to Disney, going to wineries with her daughter, and spoiling her Chihuahuas, Jake and Tisha. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Michael Whipp, a daughter, Betty Jo Shaffer (Leslie Shaffer), and three sisters, Dorothy Hamilton, Connie Haywood and Penny Williams. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Dale Solberg, and her infant son, Jimi Allen.

There will be a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Whipp residence, 2040 Fielstra Dr. in Traverse City, Michigan.
