Michael Joseph Shorter

Michael Joseph Shorter, 73, of Maple City passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023 at the Villa at Traverse Point.

Mike was born on March 22, 1950 in Traverse City to the late Keith and Bernice (Couturier) Shorter.

On April 21, 1978, Mike married Gertrude A. Shorter.

Mike worked in the automotive industry and in his spare time enjoyed music, karaoke and old cars. He was fondly known as "Johnny Cash".

Mike was preceded in death by his sisters Linda April and Shari Leabo; sister-in-law Margaret Shorter and brother-in-law Felix Rice.

Mike is survived by his wife of 45 years Gertie; their daughter Deborah "Debbie" (Ken Kocevar) Shorter; grandchildren Ashley Kocevar and Kenny (Faith) Kocevar; great grandchildren Laya and Clayton Kocevar; and siblings Jim Shorter, Diane Rice, Darlene (John) Sheffer, Denny (Kathy) Shorter, Connie Frost; brothers-in-law Ron April and Mike Leabo.

The family will celebrate his life on Saturday, October 21, 2023 with the Rosary at 10:30, followed by the Mass at 11 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to St. Judes or Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Villa for their years of care and also to Promedica Hospice who was so kind the past few weeks.
