Michelle Marie Mercer, 81, of Traverse City passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at home.
Michelle was born on September 18, 1942 in Ann Arbor, MI to the late Fredrick and Mary (Mueller) Cain. She spent her entire life in Michigan, embracing the beauty of all four seasons.
Michelle's dedication to caring for others led her to pursue a career as a registered nurse, a profession she served in with unwavering commitment for over 50 years.
Michelle's passion for giving back to her community was evident in her extensive volunteer work. She generously devoted her time to events such as the Filmfest, the Comedy Fest, and the Turkey Trot, as well as volunteering at local 5K races and the souvenir tent at the National Cherry Festival.
An avid beach enthusiast, Michelle had a talent for finding the most beautiful and serene spots along the shoreline. She had an eye for finding the most spectacular beach glass. She had a huge collection that she loved to share. She also found joy in watching movies, particularly those that brought happiness and laughter to her heart. She loved to collect cute little mice and was rarely seen without her trusty water bottle by her side.
Michelle took immense pride in her 40+ years of sobriety and the profound impact she had on countless lives through her involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous.
Above all, Michelle was a devoted mother and cherished friend. Her daughter, Theresa, will deeply miss her loving presence and the immeasurable impact she had on those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her daughter Theresa Marie Kelly, her sister Mary (Denis) Wegner, her siblings Edward T. Cain and several nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved dog Little Bear.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Martha A. Cain.
A Memorial Service in her honor will be held at 11am on Thursday, 11, 2024 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation held one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be directed Great Lakes Humane Society.
