Mildred "Millie" Smith

April 8, 1933 - January 10, 2022

Millie Smith left this world peacefully on January 10th to be with her Lord and reunite with her son Brent. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 8, 1933 and moved north with her family to grow up in Wyandotte, Michigan. She is survived by her husband Dean Smith of Glen Arbor, daughters Deborah Beck, Glen Arbor, Laurie Phelps, Livonia, Michigan and her sister Louise Moss, of Bartlett, Illinois; also six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She and her husband Dean began their very long journey together when they first met in Sunday School when she was twelve and he was thirteen. They were high school sweethearts, and then got married during Dean’s junior year at Michigan State University and were married for sixty nine years. After college they went into the Air Force and were stationed at the Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, California. They spent the rest of their happily married life together in Michigan. Millie was an avid gardener, loved to bowl and play golf, traveled to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Great Barrier Reef with her husband and had a passion for animals, especially her dogs. Over the years, fibromyalgia and other medical challenges took their toll and she gradually became most comfortable relaxing in her Lazy Boy chair looking out the window, over the lake, and at the bird sanctuary and waterfall her son Brent built for her. She will be greatly missed by many who are also strengthened by the fact that for the first time in almost fifty years she is finally pain free. A memorial service will take place on Sunday March 27, 2022 at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church.
