Norman Ogemaw

December 15, 1936 - February 25, 2022

Norman Peter Ogemaw, 85, of Peshawbestown, passed on February 25, 2022. He was born December 15, 1936 in Northport, son to Joseph and Anna (Jake) Ogemagegedo. Without children of his own, he did welcome the role as our beloved Uncle Norman; Uncle Norman was a man proud of his heritage, quietly strong and private, yet, giving of his time and knowledge when you needed a helping hand. He was trained as a certified Dental Technician, however, chose to move to a field that served his love of tinkering and fixing things and attended school for auto mechanics. As a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, he did exercise his Treaty Rights and was a Tribal Fisherman for many years. In his later years, he was very fond of working on bicycles and bringing them back to good use for others to enjoy. He resided at the Elders Complex in Peshawbestown since the early 1990’s and enjoyed the companionship the community circle provided. He enjoyed attending Elders and Community events; for entertainment he enjoyed going to the Casino and driving around Northport/Gills Pier, his old stomping grounds. Uncle Norman was particular, funny, organized and sharp; he will be very missed as the only Uncle we had, even with his slightly cantankerous ways. Norman is survived by his younger sister Rose Germain and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Angie; twin siblings Gilbert & Jaunita; Sisters Ruby Ogemagegedo, Beula Fowler, Geneva Ogemaw, Jean “JoAnn” Ogemaw A wake will begin Wednesday March 2, at 4PM (prayer service at 7:00 PM), at Northport Indian Mission and continue until the funeral begins at 11:00 AM on Thursday March 3 Memorial contributions can be made to the Grand Traverse Band Elders Advisory, 2605 N. West Bay Shore Dr, Peshawbestown, MI 49682. You may also share memories and condolences on Norman’s tribute page, www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com
