Philip Howard Klein
December 3, 1956 - January 19, 2021
Philip Howard Klein, 64, of Interlochen, passed away January 19, 2021. He was born in Pigeon, December 3, 1956, son to Ralph “Bud” Klein and Geraldine (Briley) Klein. Philip served in the US Navy aboard the USS Monticello. He remembered his times in the Navy fondly and was proud to serve his country. Following his tour of duty Philip moved to the Chicago area and went to school to learn about computers. He was successful in this field, which was a credit to his intelligence, as computers of that era were vastly different from ones today. While in Chicago he met, fell in love and married Nancy Hughes. In 1987 the couple eloped at the courthouse in Chicago, and even though the judge was late they made it to Cub stadium in time to watch a game and celebrate. After their time in Chicago Nancy, Philip, and their young daughter Jessica moved to Spokane, Washington. While in Spokane Philip became Microsoft certified. Following several years in Washington the family picked-up and moved to Traverse City. At this point Philip wanted to do something with his hands, so he partnered up with a friend and started Heck Cement, specializing in cement flatwork. Throughout all of the places they lived Philip loved to ride his Harley Dyna Glide. He was an animal lover who cherished his four-legged friend’s company. Philip leaves behind his wife Nancy Hughes-Klein; daughter Jessica Klein; both of his parents; siblings Linda (Frank) Gorkowski, Marv and Steve (Kim); adopted son Shawn Klein and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents. A service honoring Philip will take place in Atlanta, MI at a later date, when it is a safer time to gather.
