Robert "Bob" I. Thompson

October 23, 1937 - November 12, 2021

Robert I. Thompson, 84, of Traverse City passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Munson Medical Center. Bob was born on October 23, 1937 in Traverse City to the late Lloyd and Weta (Squires) Thompson. He graduated from Traverse City Central High School. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Blaine Washington and also at Goose Air Base in Labrador, Canada. Bob met his first loving wife of 49 years, Gloria Lund while in Blaine, Washington. Together they had four children. She preceded him in death in 2007. He moved back to Traverse City in 1978. He attended barber school while in Washington state. He was a barber for over 40 years, he retired from Tonsorial Parlor, located in the Traverse City Meijer. Bob found love again, he married Virginia Andresen on September 19, 2009. He was a member of the Elks Lodge; he enjoyed sports and supported all the Detroit and Michigan teams. He loved hunting, fishing, playing golf and attending his grandkids events. Above all, spending time with his family and friends and praying for their well-being was his greatest joy. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Virginia; his daughters and son; Tami Fioranelli, Terri (Larry) Langley, Todd Thompson and step-son; Howard (Teri) Andresen. Also, grandchildren; Rachel (Richard) Haight, Joe (Stevie) Fioranelli, Cami Fioranelli, Kyle (Shelly) Thompson, Kory (Christine) Thompson, Megan (Brady) Cone, Caleb Thompson, Amber Rokos and Patrick Andresen and great-grandchildren; Alex, Serena, Ashton, Tyler, Tanner, Talon, Idalia, Camden and Brendan. Also surviving are a brother, John Thompson, a sister, Lloeta Barry, his in-laws, Eunice Wachtveitl, Linda Moore, Paul (Jodi) Lund and Dale (Micki) Lund. He was preceded in death by a son, Tom Thompson and two brothers; Jim Thompson and Bill Thompson. A memorial service honoring Robert will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Pastor Doyle Berg, Jr. will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Cherryland V.F.W. post 2780 and the American Legion post 35.
