Robert Lewis Stoops

The Rev. Robert Lewis Stoops was summoned home to his Savior, September, 29, 2019. He was born January 9, 1918, to Robert and Edith (Lewis) Stoop in Yuba, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Wives; Robbie and Loie Stoops, Brother; Doyle (Ellen) Stoops, Sisters; Doris Stoops, Bernice (Edward) Mort, Inez (Jack) Blaser and Dorothy (George) Umlor, Nieces; Elizabeth (Ann) Blaser and Ann Marie Blaser. Nephews; Kenneth Wheelock, Edward Medal, Michael Umlor and Rev. Richard Blaser. At seventeen, Bob headed west to attend the California Pacific International Exposition, working his way across the United States by digging ditches and doing auto body work. Afterwards, Bob settled in Bakersfield, California, opening his own body shop. With the advent of World War II, Bob volunteered for duty in the US Army and was stationed in Alaska where he served as a cook and wrangler for construction crews building highways and airfields for the war effort. After proudly serving his country he returned to Bakersfield CA and married the love of his life, Robbie. They spent many joyful years together before her untimely passing. Bob later married Loie with whom he also shared many sunsets together while serving the Lord. In 1948 Bob accepted Jesus as Savior and King and “Never Looked Back” setting his life foundation on God and His word. Robert proudly completed his GED, attended Bible College, and received his Minister License on October 19, 1989, from the International Gospel Assemblies, Inc. He then went on to serve as a Street Evangelist and 'Church Planter' for the Assemblies of God in many western and Midwest states. After returning back to Northern Michigan in his 90's, he faithfully continued to touch many lives for Christ. Bob attended Mt. Zion Family Worship Center in Traverse City, Michigan. He will always be affectionally referred to as “Uncle Bob” and/or “Grandpa Bob” by all of those whom his life touched so deeply. Robert is survived by his Nieces; Vada (Wilfred) Baatz, Evelyn (Robert) Hawkins, Patsy (Mort) Nolan, Barbara Stoops, Janice Medal, Jorgy Umlor, Rhonda Umlor and Brenda Umlor. Nephews: Robert Blaser, Donald (Jim) Blaser, David Stoops, Richard (Karen) Mort and Raymond Mort. And many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Services to honor Robert's life will be held on October 4, 2019 at Mt. Zion Family Worship Center, 4950 Silver Pines Road, Traverse City, Michigan. Visitation will start at 12:30pm with the memorial service starting at 1:30pm, with Bishop Dan Skirvin officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City, Michigan. A meal celebrating Robert's life will be held at Mt, Zion after the interment service.
