TRAVERSE CITY — Shana Renae Weber, 35, of Suttons Bay, passed away Tuesday morning, March 29, 2011, at her home after her three-year battle with adrenal cancer. Shana was born on June 25, 1975, in Grand Rapids, to parents Francis and Joyce (Hartman) Weber. As the family left Grand Rapids behind, they settled into home in the Upper Peninsula, where Shana was raised and attended school. She attended school and became a graduate of Munising High School as she set her sights high and began the road to a career in medicine. With a passion for children, Shana returned to Grand Rapids to complete her residency at DeVos Children's Hospital and eventually became a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. She then began her pediatric career working with an at-need population at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. Shana entered into marriage with her childhood friend and classmate, Scott Kinney, on July 27, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Munising.Shana could often be found living life to its fullest, whether it be dancing with Mia, fishing with Scott, hanging out with her nieces and nephews, traveling to different sunny locations, savoring ice cream or making us all laugh with her great sense of humor. She loved spending time with family and friends, going to the beach to listen to the waves and feel the sun's warmth, water skiing, downhill skiing, attending church, gardening and cooking (especially chocolate desserts!).Her greatest joy came when her daughter, Mia was born, and Shana loved every moment with her as a proud mother. Shana had a strong will and a drive that carried her through life, and even through the struggle of being sick she maintained her zest to live and make the most of every moment. Shana will forever be remembered by her loving husband, Scott Kinney and their daughter, Mia, of Suttons Bay; her mother, Joyce Weber, of Munising; her sister, Erin (Chris) Weber-Holloway, of Milwaukee; nieces and nephews, Jacqueline, Jacob, Emma, Liam, Addison Jane, Bryn, Alyssa and Alekzander; and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis in 2009. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Kenneth Stachnik will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Shana's husband, Scott so the family may continue Shana's fight against adrenal cancer with a donation in her honor to the University of Michigan adrenal cancer research program. Please share thoughts with the family at Shana's online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
