Sharry Joan Hirtreiter

April 3, 1956 - March 19, 2021

Sharry Hirtreiter, of Traverse City, Mi, passed away in Fort Myers, Florida on March 19th, 2021 after a tough but short battle with Covid 19. Sharry was born, with her twin sister Sharon Wheelock, in Traverse City on April 3rd, 1956. Sharry spent her whole life unselfishly caring for others. Before graduating from Traverse City Senior High (now Central High School), she started working alongside her mother and sisters at Grand Traverse Medical Care as a Nursing Assistant, taking care of the elderly and infirmed. After having her children, Megan and Jordan, she took a ten-year break to be a stay-at-home mom. She returned to work as a Nursing Assistant, this time at Munson Medical Center, until her retirement in 2004. Family was the most important of Sharry’s life and she put her whole heart into raising her family. She met her beloved husband, James Hirtreiter, in 1980 and married him on October 2nd, 1982. They enjoyed a happy marriage, full of adventure and laughter. She was the most devoted mother imaginable and worked tirelessly to ensure the happiness and health of her daughter Megan and her son Jordan. Raising her children to be close with their family was imperative. With her sisters Sharon, Suellen and Sueann and their children, a close tight knit family was born and continues to grow. In 2014, she became a grandmother and was the most devoted nanny imaginable. Her granddaughters, Piper Ray (6) and Paisley Joan (4), reveled in the constant love and attention from their nanny. Sharry who was with them from the moment they were born and any possible moment thereafter was immensely loved by her grandchildren. She said she wasn't "just a hands-on a grandma but a couldn't keep hands off grandma." She also had many grand nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Grandma Sharry. During the last 20 years, Sharry grew a passion for travel. She yearned to see the world and was proud to have made it to Turkey, Greece, Germany, California and Washington DC, making many friends along the way. An avid civil war buff, she read any books she could get her hands on about Civil War battles and President Lincoln. She attended St. Francis Catholic Church her whole life and had an admirable, unwavering faith. Sharry was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jane and John Geroy; older sister Suanne Cook; brothers Steven and Allen Geroy and her beloved in-laws Arthur and Marion Hirtreiter. Shortly after her death, Sharry was joined in heaven by her cherished twin sister, Sharon Wheelock. Sharry leaves behind her devoted husband James Hirtreiter; Daughter Megan (Bernard) Hirtreiter-Bossert; granddaughters Piper Ray (6) and Paisley Joan (4); son Jordan Hirtreiter; step-grandchildren Joseph Wolf and Junie Bossert; sister Suellen Cook and many treasured nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 11AM, April 6, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10AM and continue until the time of service. The Hirtreiter family asks that in remembrance of this amazing mother and grandmother that you continue to take Covid 19 seriously and protect yourselves and your family, wear a mask and vaccinate yourself if possible. Also because of Sharry's love for cats and kittens the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Sharry’s honor to AC Paw, where Megan volunteers, www.acpaw.org or checks can be sent to AC Paw, PO Box 94, Acme MI, 49610
