Thomas 'Thom' Schmuckal, 78, of Traverse City, passed away January 14, 2020.
Thom was born on May 22, 1941 to the late Frank and Margaret (Hansen) Schmuckal.
Thom was a police officer for 32 years with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department only after being enlisted for 9 years with the United States Army. He was a member of the American Military League and founding member of the 101 Squad which brought the first Jaws of Life to Northern Michigan. He was active in the Acme Community, and enjoyed golf, cards, going to the casino and time at the cabin. But above all of his interests and his amazing careers in Public Service, he loved his family more than anything. The man with the last word and best practical jokes will be severely missed.
Thom is survived and missed to the moon and back by his bride, Denise Spriet, his four daughters and their children; Maria (Fiance` Aaron Spence) Jung with Erika and Ian, Jaci Boyd with Stephen, Susan (Michael) Bly with Nick, Jacob, Audrey and Catherine (David) Runkel with Jake and Jordan. He is also going to be missed by his nephews; Paul and Richard Schmuckal and Brett and Jeffery Mittelstedt, his sister in law Linda Mittelstedt, his mother in law Shirley Spriet and his brother Kenneth (Linda) Schmuckal.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his step father Jacob Kolarik, and his brother.
Visitation will take place Friday, January 17, 2020 at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 5-8 pm. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2020, also at the funeral home, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior.
