Wanda Gutowski

July 16, 1922 - April 5, 2020

Wanda Delphine (Madajczyk) Gutowski, of Traverse City, MI (formerly of Dearborn Heights, MI), passed away peacefully on April 5, 2020 at the age of 97. Wanda was born on July 16, 1922 in Detroit, MI to the late Peter and Agnes Madajczyk. She married the late Henry J. Gutowski on June 20, 1942 at St Florian Church in Hamtramck, MI and shared 64 loving years together. Originally from Hamtramck, she and Henry moved to the west side of Detroit in 1954 where they raised their daughters, later moving to Dearborn Heights where they resided for thirty six years. Wanda was employed with J.L. Hudsons and retired from there after many years. She was always ready for a good card game, and was quite the card shark. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. When cooking for family gatherings, there was always enough food to feed an army, with plenty left over for doggie bags. She enjoyed singing with family and friends and continued her love for singing until the end. Her absolute favorite song was Let Me Call You Sweetheart. As the final song comes to an end and Mom has completed her earthly journey, it’s only fitting that the final phrase be "Cha Cha Cha". "Know What I Mean, Vern?" Wanda is survived by four daughters: Patricia (David) Konopka of Canton, GA, Linda (David) Cervenan of Lake Leelanau, MI, Janice (David) Sroka of Northville, MI and Ann Marie (Joseph) Rypkowski of Rockwood, TN. Also surviving are her grandchildren: James (Cindy) Konopka, Julie (Larry) Carlisle, David Cervenan, Daniel (Shelly) Cervenan, Scott (Nancy) Sroka, Keith (April) Sroka, Nathan Sroka, Charissa (Kevin) Knouff, and Allison (Travis) Michelena and twelve great-grandchildren: Serenity, Destiny, Addison, Kylie, Gabriella, Matthew, Ashley, Isabell, Cooper, Caden, Parker and Sadie. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband Henry (2007), parents, brothers Thaddeus, William, and Leo, and grandson Gary Konopka. The family would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude and appreciation, the past and present staff of Bay Ridge Assisted Living Center in Traverse City, who showed love and compassion during her nearly ten years residing there, especially those who were with her in her final moments: Phil, Lisa, Christine, Ashley, Kendra and Kayla. In addition, a special thank you to Kim, Fay, Tina, Nichole and Buffy as well as past care givers: Debi, Denise, Karen and Brett. Also a sincere thank you for all the comfort and support received from Cami, her Hospice of Michigan nurse. Those wishing an expression of sympathy may do so in Wanda's name to Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding Avenue, SE, Ada, MI 49301 Due to the global circumstances, details for the funeral service are pending at this time. The family is being cared for by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
