TRAVERSE CITY — William E. "Bill" "Will" Cook, 84, of Traverse City, formerly of Detroit, entered the gates of heaven and went to be with our Lord Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2011, at Orchard Creek Nursing Home, following a long illness. Born Sept. 15, 1926, in Detroit, he was the son of the late Clarence and Minnie (Nagel) Cook. On March 28, 1952, in Detroit, he married the former Mary Katherine Burkhart. Bill was a proud veteran who served his country with the United States Air Force during World War II. Bill and his wife, Kathy, strong believers in God, were always involved in a church. Currently attending Church of the Living God, they found loving friends and comfort. Most of his life he was an avid golfer and bowler. He was awarded the 300 ring from the American Bowling Congress after rolling a perfect game at Timberlanes in 1995. He was a retired engineer who worked for General Dynamics Tank Plant and was a member of the Plant Engineer Society, both located in Lima, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Katherine Cook, of Traverse City; daughters, Karen E. (John) VanDusen, of Williamsburg, Laurie E. (Michael) Shakarian, of Livonia, and Julie E. (Robert) Opsasnick, of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Helene Duckett. Memorial services will be held at the Church of the Living God on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at noon, with luncheon served at the church after the service. In remembrance of Will, memorials may be directed to Prison Fellowship (prisonfellowship.org) or Church of the Living God.
