TRAVERSE CITY — Dr. Wallace A. Jones, 79, of Traverse City and Concord, Mass., and formerly of Gunnison, Colo., passed away at Orchard Creek on March 30, 2011.Wally was born on Nov. 18, 1931, to the late Robert and Margaret (Wallace) Jones in Dayton, Ohio. In 1953, Wally married Mary E. (McShane). After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Dayton, he pursued his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. While completing his residency at Mass General Hospital in Boston, he served as an instructor at Harvard Medical School. During his tenure, he published numerous articles specializing in liver disease. He also served at the Air Force Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. In his spare time, Wally enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his family. After retiring from medicine, Wally fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a cattle ranch. For 12 years, Wally and Mary owned and operated The Castleton Ranch in Gunnison, Colo. Wally is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary; his four children, Michael (Anne) Jones, of Yarmouth, Maine, Meg (Walter) Meeker, of Traverse City, Beth (John) Linfoot, of Boerne, Texas, and Robert T. (Lee Ellen) Jones, of Concord, Mass.; and 13 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Wally's life will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Edwin Thome officiating on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at noon.
