Alan Matthew Kurt, of Traverse City, age 80, passed away on Friday, September 25th 2020 due to complications caused by COVID-19. Alan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 26th, 1940. The eldest of six siblings, he served in the Army National Guard of Michigan and on ore boats on the Great Lakes in his younger days. A lifelong devout Catholic, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Rita (Busser), his brother Greg and his beloved wife Inara (Freimuts). He is survived by his sons Michael and Eric, grandson Jack and sisters Marita Kontur, Marilyn Sarka, Diane Woyanski and Linda Fitos. Even after losing his wife of 51 years in 2017, he found love and happiness with Linda DePoister.
A consummate salesman who effortlessly made friends, he held a variety of sales positions, selling everything from laundry soap and cars early in his career to semi-trucks and commercial insurance later on, where he was known for his integrity and good humor.
Alan loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandson. He was physically active and enjoyed helping his fellow condo residents as a member of the condo association board where he was known for his reliability and a ready willingness to help others. Throughout his life he quietly went about doing good and led without fanfare and with strong humility. He was a volunteer for the Father Fred Foundation.
He most wanted to be remembered for raising his two sons into fine men that he was immeasurably proud of.
