Albert E. Hyde of Traverse City passed away December 14, 2013 at his residence at the age of 93. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI. May 28th 1920 to Albert and Jean (Smits) Hyde.
Upon completing his Master's Degree at the University of Michigan in 1942, Al taught high school math in Grand Rapids then entered into the United States Army serving as a Staff Sargent in the Military Intelligence Service in U.S. occupied Germany.
He returned to Civilian life, married Madelyn Shepard in 1951and moved to Irvington, NY as a project manager in the military electronics industry before returning to teaching in Brewster, NY. in 1972.
Albert moved to Traverse City in 1986 with his wife Madelyn and lived on the Peninsula until moving to Garfield Township.
Al Hyde was a devoted Husband and father to two stepchildren. Al and Madelyn were members of the First Congregational Church in Traverse City. Madelyn passed on in 2004. He leaves two children , three grandchildren and four great grandchildren by marriage, his sister Mary Spidell and Elizabeth Hyde to carry on without him. We mourn his passing and celebrate his life as a steadfast provider, teacher, ETO soldier and father.
