Albert C. Ockert

Albert Charles Ockert, 83, of Traverse City passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family

Al was born on Wednesday, October 11, 1933 to the late Charles James Michael and Wahnetta (Robbins) Ockert in Traverse City. He married Irene June Humphrey on Saturday, December 25, 1954 in Traverse City. Al served our country as a member of the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Having been employed as a roller operator by several asphalt companies that merged over the years and eventually became Elmer's, Al retired and became active in the community as a volunteer. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, A Life Member of the VFW, a member and past president of the Korean War Veterans, The American Legion and for many years was a member and the trumpeter for the Military Honor Guard. He was honored several years ago as the Veteran of the Year. He enjoyed music playing the guitar and piano, was a lover of animals, enjoyed feeding the birds as well as camping. Al was totally devoted to his family, and especially doted on and loved his great grandchildren.

Surviving Al is his wife Irene; his children, Daryl Ockert of New Mexico, Kevin Ockert, Teresa Lopez and Angie Ockert, all of Traverse City; his grandchildren, David Lopez, Shannon Lopez, Ashley Bankey, Amanda Lopez, Alexander (fiancée Chole Freundl) Lopez and Andrew Lopez and many great grandchildren. Also surviving is his former son - in law, David Lopez of Traverse City. Al was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Margaret Nelson and Rose Wilson.

Visitation for Al will take place from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, June 19 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20 also at the funeral home with Father Christopher Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Barnum Cemetery in Mayfield with full military honors.
