TRAVERSE CITY — Alfred Archie Swanson, 90, of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at his home.Alfred was born Sunday, May 8, 1921, to the late Robert and Ruth (Richner) Swanson, in Good Harbor. On Saturday, May 24, 1952, he married Margaret I. Ruegsegger Brown, in Traverse City. A veteran of World War II, Al served our country as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945.Al had been employed by Traverse City Regional Psychiatric Hospital for 24 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers in his gardens. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. He attended The Journey (formerly College Terrace Wesleyan Church).Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Brown, of Traverse City; and two grandsons, Larry Brown and Chad Brown.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and sisters, Erma Shonk and Eleanor Favorite.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Morris officiating.
