Obituary

Alfredo Herrera Perez, age 77, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Alfredo was born on September 6, 1947, in Mexico City to the late Cesar Adolfo and Theresa (Perez) Herrera. Alfredo set out to pursue the American dream, immigrating to the United States in his early twenties with determination and a hard work ethic.
He began his new life in San Francisco, where he became a talented and charismatic server at the iconic Fisherman's Wharf. It was there that he, Kathy and Susan, started a life full of love, laughter, and fond memories—especially of oysters, crab, and sourdough shared in those early years.
Eventually, Alfredo and his family made their way to Traverse City, where he began a long and distinguished career at the Grand Traverse Resort. He was a legendary presence at the Trillium and in the banquet halls, known for his exceptional service, warm demeanor, and unforgettable charm. Guests frequently requested Alfredo by name, and his dedication earned him accolades, including the "Server of the Year" award.
Alfredo was also a proud and long-standing member of the Traverse City AA community. In recovery for over 40 years, he was a pillar of strength, hope, and inspiration to countless others. He chaired meetings, offered guidance, and formed deep, enduring friendships that reflected his genuine compassion and spiritual depth.
Above all, Alfredo was a devoted father and an exceptional "Bumpa" to his grandchildren. He took great pride in spending time with them and made the most of every moment they shared. One of their cherished rituals was being picked up from school several days a week, always greeted with fresh bacon, pine nuts and homemade orange juice or the trio would often go to the mall for Lo-Mein noodles.
Outside of work and service, Alfredo enjoyed traveling, fine dining and sharing his famous homemade salsa. He was deeply spiritual and had a unique gift for making people feel seen, loved, and truly welcomed. His radiant presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met—he touched souls and lifted spirits with his kindness and authenticity.
Alfredo is survived by his beloved daughter, Susan Connor-Herrera, son in law Kevin Cram, grandchildren Benjamin and Elena Cram, his siblings Adolfo, Carmen, Theresa, Alonso, and Beatriz, along with many other cherished family members and friends who will continue to carry his light forward.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Antonio, Salvador, Elba and Armando.
He will be remembered always for his generous heart, joyful spirit, and unwavering dedication to the people and community he loved.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church at 11am with a visitation beginning at 10am.
