Alice Marie Hanes, 90, of Interlochen, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord who she loved on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Joy Givers Senior Home in Traverse City, surrounded by her family.
Alice was born on Sunday, June 30, 1929 to the late Albert and Nina (Wilson) Harvey in Grant Township, MI. She married Donald D. Hanes on Sunday, August 22, 1948 at her parent's home in Grant Township.
Alice was the postmaster of the Grawn Post Office, retiring on July 1, 1988. She had formerly worked at the Interlochen Post Office. She was an active member of Interlochen Bible Church. Her strong faith led her to be instrumental in the formation of other churches as well. Alice was a member of the National League of Postmasters and a former member of the National Association of Postmasters. Alice's grandchildren were her world. She enjoyed any time she could spend with them. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, gardening and spending time with her family.
Surviving Alice would be her daughters, Linda (Rod) Donaldson of Kewadin, Cheryl (Dick) Stricker of Traverse City; her beloved grandchildren, Jeremy (Michael Ann) Ball, Kevin (Charlotte) Ball, Ryan (Mandy) Nickerson; her great grandchildren, Preston, Spencer, Mattea, Hailey, Paige, Dylan, Kason and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive. Alice's companion and buddy, her dog Lacy, was a great comfort and friend to her. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald and siblings Keith Harvey, Beverly Christiansen, Darrell Harvey, Evelyn and Kenneth Harvey.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Joy Givers Senior Home, and to Hospice of Michigan, especially Tammy and Karen, for the wonderful care and friendship they provided to Alice.
Visitation for Alice will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5 at Interlochen Bible Church, Interlochen with the service celebrating her life beginning at 12 noon, also at the church. Pastor Bill Ehnis will be officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
