Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Alice Joyce Mac, 96, of Traverse City, formerly of Grosse Pointe Park, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 26, 2013, at Munson Hospice House, comforted by her family. Born Nov. 28, 1916, in Michigan City, Ind., she was one of eight children born to the late Joseph and Mary (Dunanski) Majerowicz.

On June 8, 1940, in Detroit, she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Mac, who preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Dr. Mary Ann Grobbel; son-in-law, Cyril Grobbel; grandson, Thomas Rutkowski; along with four sisters and three brothers.

Her strong faith was an integral part of her life along with her membership in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she also served as an usher. Alice also enjoyed her involvement with life-membership in Daughters of Isabella-Mystical Rose Circle.

Alice was a woman who cared deeply for the world around her, and her warm and generous spirit was apparent in all her words and good deeds. She had a "joie de vivre" that was engaging and a curiosity that was all-encompassing.

She was passionate about everything she did, including volunteering at the Father Fred Foundation, baking cookies for the Munson Hospitality House and for various activities at her parish church, reading a variety of books and listening to music on Interlochen Public Radio, from which she would frequently request her favorite song, 'Music in My Mother's House'.

Her pleasant personality will be missed by her family, friends and strangers whose lives she touched and enriched. Kindness was her trademark, and family was her treasure.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Dr. Edward) Rutkowski, of Traverse City; four grandsons, Edward (Leslie) Rutkowski, of Ann Arbor, David (Karen) Rutkowski, of San Francisco, Calif., Jonathan Grobbel, of Grand Rapids, and Brian Grobbel, of Grand Rapids; three great-grandsons, Simon, Basil and Jack; many nieces, nephews and dear friends; and neighbors, Jack and Sandy Rodes.

A memorial Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Fr. Anthony Citro will serve as the celebrant.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Health Ministry or the Father Fred Foundation. Envelopes may be obtained at the church.
