Alice Lucille Miller, 84 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Munson Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Lucille was born on October 17, 1929 in Garfield Twp, Kalkaska County to the late August and Goldie (Smith) Lund. She married the late Elton Wayne Miller on August 19, 1948 in South Boardman. Together they raised four wonderful daughters.
Lucille has lived in the area over 65 years on Silver Lake. She was a long time member of the Grawn United Methodist Church and started the delicious Swiss Steak Dinner.
Lucille was one of the pioneer members of The Buckley Old Engine Show. She was a dedicated ticket taker and even was the Grand Marshall one year. Lucille was a 4H leader for 20 years, teaching most of the neighborhood to sew. She was famous for her baking skills and especially her rolls. Sewing was also a talent that she enjoyed. She helped with the costumes at West High School music program. She made quilts for the Oncology patients and for the children at the infusion clinic. Bunco, euchre, music and dancing were favorite pass times for Lucille.
Family and friends were very important to her and she loved spending time with each and every one of them. Her friendly smile and talented baking and quilting skills will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Lucille are her daughters, Sue (Keith) Kling of Appleton, WI, Ruth (Chuck) Bissell of Beulah, Mary Grubb and Lois Miller of Traverse City, grandchildren Brian (Tracie) Kling, Ben (Gina) Kling, Kelly (Ryan) Lins, Debbie (Mark Maclaine) Homan, Peter (Amanda) Bissell, Scott (Ashley Gerhard) Grubb, Heidi Grubb, Jeremy Rowe, Michael Rowe, 13 and a half great grandchildren, siblings, Elaine Kittle, Victor (Pat) Lund, Dale Lund, Clara (Dan) Porter, Roland (Lorraine) Lund, DeRay (Alice) Lund, Leona Boyden, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Arnold Lund, son-in-law, Art Grubb, and brother-in-law's Harry Boyden and Orin Kittle.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 4-8pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A celebration of Lucille's life will take place on Friday May 23, at 11am also at the funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
