Alice Marie Swartz, 94, completed her earthly journey and went to be with her savior this month.
She was born to the late Bernard and Veronica (Homminga) Miller in Manistee, MI in June of 1928.
Alice was a devout Catholic and served in many church groups over the years including food pantries. She enjoyed music and playing the piano and even learned to play the harp in her 70's. She loved her flowers and garden, which was a source of food for her family.
In 1950 she married the late Lee Swartz at St. Francis Catholic Church. Together they raised their eight children. She worked as a hearing technician for the school systems performing hearing tests on students of all ages until her retirement.
She is survived by her children; Colleen Hilsenhoff, Chris (David Hawkins) Thrush, Lee (Pam) Swartz, Greg Swartz, Chuck Swartz, Lisa Medina, and Laura Swartz, her sister Pat Miller and 44 grand and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Cindy, brother Paul, and two sons-in- laws both named Jerry.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 5:30-7:30pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the rosary being prayed at 7:15pm. A second visitation will take place on Thursday from 11:30am until noon with a funeral mass beginning at noon at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire.
