Traverse City - Allan E. Kornmiller, 87, of Traverse City passed away September 9, 2016 at Munson Medical Center.
Allan was born on February 11, 1929 in Cleveland, OH to the late William H. and Dorcas A. (Petersen) Kornmiller.
Allan grew up in Ohio and after receiving a scholarship, earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree from the Cleveland Institute of Arts in Industrial Design in 1952. In 1956 he moved to Michigan and worked for Ford, American Motors, and finally Chrysler where he designed cars for 32 years before retiring in 1987. Allan helped design the 1955 Ford Thunderbird and various Nash, Hudson, Dodge, Plymouth, and Chrysler vehicles. On May 27, 1978 Allan married Carole A. Kornmiller in Niantic, Connecticut. In the late 1980's, he and his family moved to Traverse City where they enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, planting trees, and spending time at the lake in Union Township. In his spare time he liked to go to the casino and buy and sell toy cars on eBay and at the Michigan Antique and Flea Market in Midland. Allan also enjoyed attending the annual family reunion at Perry Park on the shores of Lake Erie in Ohio which has been held for over 80 years. Allan will be greatly missed and will be fondly remembered for saying "I never worked a day in my life".
Allan is survived by his wife Carole, son Erik (Kellie) and grandchildren Natalie, Mollie, and Owen of Royal Oak, daughter Wendy (Greg) Vaughan of Plainwell, sister-in-law Karen Eaton of WA, brother Herman (Stella) Kornmiller of OH, loving nieces and nephews, and his favorite dog, Lucy.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, daughter April, brother William, and beloved dogs Abie, Sadie, and Lillie.
The memorial service for Allan will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Allan may be directed to Traverse City Boy Scout Troup #115, The Cherryland Humane Society, the Salvation Army, or the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
