Alma M. (Amen) Cox was born August 6, 1931, to Jacob and Katherine (Frank) Amen in Loveland Colorado. She was the third from the youngest of nine children. The family moved to Mead, Colorado when Alma was six years old, where she graduated from High School. Upon graduation she moved to Denver to live with her sister and she worked at the Mountain States Telephone Company. While in Denver she met her husband John Cox who was stationed there in the Air Force, after his discharge they moved to Traverse City, John's hometown to raise their family.
Alma was an avid golfer, a member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club for many years even getting a cherished hole in one. She also enjoyed the game of Bridge which she still played on her phone. Alma had an artistic ability which was evident in her dress, decorating, cooking and painting. She was a wonderful cook and made many family and holiday meals. Alma loved to watch sports especially golf and tennis.
Alma was a very special mother and had a close relationship with her children. Her son Mark and she talked every day sharing all the news of his family as they moved all over the U.S. as well as current sports games.
Alma lived with her daughter Janet Barker the last three years. They had a special opportunity to become traveling companions and best friends after the passing of Janet's husband, traveling many places all over the world. She is and will be greatly missed. Much love to you mom.
Alma is survived by her son, Mark (Julie) Cox of Denver, their children, Alison Alma Cox (Arthur Wood) of Denver, John (Melissa) Cox II, their children, Ryker, Crew, and Colton, of New York, Robert Cox of San Francisco, and Sam Cox of Alaska. Also surviving is her daughter Janet Barker, of Traverse City. Janet's son Joshua Barker, his son Logan Barker of Laurium, MI, and Janet's step-son Gary (Tiffany) Barker of Traverse City, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alma was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, her eight siblings, Esther, Victor, Jacob, Kay, Robert, Eddy, Bud, and Bill and her son-in-law, George Barker.
There will be a private family memorial.
