Obituary

Traverse City-Alvin Richard "Dick" Cobb, 66, of Traverse City and Rotonda West, FL, died Monday evening, October 22, 2012, at Munson Medical Center following a two year bout with cancer. Dick displayed a "never give up" attitude until the Lord said that it's time for eternal rest.
He was comforted by his loving and supportive family..

Born August 15, 1946, in Traverse City, he was the only child of Alvin Seymour and Luella (Howard) Cobb. On September 7, 1968, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe, he married the former Judith "Judi" A. Kane.

Dick attended and graduated from Traverse City High School with the class of 1964. He earned his Associate Degree from Northwestern Michigan College and furthered his education by attending Eastern Michigan University, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.

Prior to his recent retirement, Dick worked as a building contractor and owned and operated Cobb Construction Company. He gladly donated his labor in designing and building the Sanctuary furnishings at St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he was a long time member.

Dick was an avid golfer, who held many golf league memberships. He enjoyed the thrill of mushroom hunting, adventures of scuba diving ,the serenity of kayaking, and the excitement of hunting and fishing. He captured his love of nature with his beautiful photography. Many of his photos he gifted to family and friends, which now will be cherished for a lifetime.

Dick always had a spark in his eyes for his wife, Judi of 44 years and his girls.


He is survived by his wife, Judi A. Cobb of Traverse City; daughters, Renee (Franklyn Torres Santos) Cobb of Arlington, VA and Shelly (Jim) Kennedy of Madison, WI; two grandchildren, Finn and Loch Kennedy; along with three nephews and one niece. Dick is also survived by other family members, special friends, and his beloved golden retriever, Lady.

Friends may call at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Thursday, October 25, 2012, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. where the Cobb family will receive friends. A Vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. conducted by Deacon Rene Hoensheid.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Friday, October 26, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Rev. Gregory McCallum will serve as the celebrant.

Following cremation, inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery on Old Mission Peninsula.

Dick actively supported the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in hopes that cancer, like polio, will one day become a disease of the past.
