Alvina C. Ellis

April 23, 1919 — February 4, 2013

Alvina Clare Ellis, 93, longtime resident of Interlochen and formerly Flint, MI, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 under the care of hospice at C&C Adult Foster Care, Interlochen.

Alvina was born on April 23, 1919 to the late Fredrich and Pauline (Wexel) Wagner in Detroit, MI. Alvina began summering with her family in the Grand Traverse area at a young age before making the move north permanent.

Alvina entered into marriage with Ralph W. Ellis on July 6, 1943 in Detroit. She was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church maintaining an active and vital part of the congregation and even served as secretary for seven years. Alvina celebrated many successful years in the canoe rental business. She was very involved in her community, volunteering with the American Red Cross for 25 years, Betsie River and Interlochen Garden Clubs and was a former member of the Interlochen Women's Club, and the Interlochen Chamber of Commerce.

Alvina is survived by by many loving and longtime friends and neighbors as well as the many she grew to know through her church family and those acting as care givers in recent years.

Alvina was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her two brothers, Fred and Albert Wagner, her parents and special friend, Alfred Mayer.

Funeral services will take place on Friday May 10, 2013 at 11 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Grawn.

Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour Ministries.
