Amanda Katherine Cook of Traverse City, MI, beloved mother and nana, died peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022. She was 76 years old. Amanda was born on Friday the 13th of July in 1945 to the late Edward and Lora (Stevens) Pursell.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at 3:00pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation from 2-3pm. Amanda's final resting place is next to her husband at St. Johns Mount Rest Cemetery.
She worked as a registered nurse, much preferring to work in surgery, where she met her husband, John. After they wed on May 9, 1969, she left that career and went on to start her more important venture: being a mother. She worked hard to give her children every advantage possible. Love guided her through parenthood. As her children grew, she transitioned gracefully into a friend who kept in touch with frequent phone calls, always offering a listening ear.
With her outgoing personality, Amanda will be missed and remembered by the many friends she developed from a variety of activities. She was always in a card game group, cherished her time learning during Bible studies, and kept active with her water aerobics classes. Amanda also loved her newest tech gadget, looked forward to catching the latest box office hit, and was ready to try any cuisine with anyone who would join her.
She is survived and missed dearly by her children, Mary (Cary), Stephanie (Steve), Joseph (Palida) and Jen; her grandchildren, Danielle (Jon), John, Christopher, Erika, Abigail, Anna, Asher, Timothy, Lora and Brianna; her great grandchildren, Carson, Amelia, and Evelyn, as well as many close friends from over the years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John, and her son, Johnny.
