On August 8, 2013, as the Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums marched down
the hill at the Grand Traverse Pavilions Campus playing Scotland the
Brave, wee bonnie lass Angie Ruth MacDonald, 95 and a resident of the
Grand Traverse Pavilions, was peacefully piped into the loving arms of
her Lord Jesus Christ.
Angie was born on May 24, 1918, to the late Virgil and Suzanna
(Tumbleson) Rose in Eau Claire, Mi. She married Paul J MacDonald on
July 17, 1938, in Dowagiac, Mi.
Angie thoroughly enjoyed being a mother and raising her family, and her
grandchildren and great grands were very special to her. While living
in Dowagiac and working as an elementary school librarian, she used her
love of books and children to bless many. She also volunteered in
various organizations, including her favorite, Kids Hope, after retiring
to Traverse City. She was a faithful member of the Federated Church in
Dowagiac and later The First Congregational Church in Traverse City,
where she served as the church librarian for several years.
Angie will be remembered for her delicious cooking and baking skills.
Those fortunate enough to receive her homemade peanut brittle and other
goodies during the holidays always eagerly looked forward to the next
holiday. Over the years her family anticipated clan gatherings where
they indulged in entrees like her homemade chicken and noodles. They
will also fondly remember her feisty disposition, beautiful smile and
generous soul.
Surviving Angie is her husband of 75 year; Paul; children, Paula (Larry)
Hofmeister of Kingsley, Mi., Drs. Don (Ginger) MacDonald of Federal
Way, Was., David (Ginny) MacDonald of Skandia, Mi.; 11 grandchildren, 20
great grandchildren, and many other loving friends and family members.
Angie is preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and son Gerald
Richard "Dick" MacDonald.
A memorial service will be held for Angie at 11am on Tuesday, August 13,
2013, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a visitation held one
hour prior. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Botanic
Garden of Northwest Michigan, P.O. Box 1247, Traverse City, Mi.
