Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Anna Ray Biederman, 96, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at her home. Anna was born Aug. 20, 1913, to the late Thomas Ray and Mabel E. Royal in Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to Traverse City in January of 1941. Anna entered into marriage with the late Lester M. on Aug. 3, 1936, in Philadelphia, and together they enjoyed 50 wonderful years of love and friendship. Always known as the independent and self sufficient, Anna was very prim, proper and frugal in her ways. Anna took pleasure in many different activities including sewing, especially Raggedy Ann Dolls, Christmas Tree skirts and quilts. Additionally, Anna also thoroughly enjoyed the company of others while playing in her Bridge Club, participating in church activities, such as vacation Bible school and other church related functions. Above all other things, Anna valued spending time with her loving family, and in her later years with her grandchildren. Anna is survived by two sons, Ross (Brenda) Biederman of Traverse City and Paul Biederman of Golden, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Gregory Biederman of Stone Harbor, N.J., Bryan (Tami) Biederman of Ackworth, Ga., Christopher (Julie) Warren of Traverse City, Beau (Jennifer) Warren of Traverse City, Marissa (Chris) O'Connor of Belmont, Mass., Matthew (Keisha) Biederman of Christiansburg, Va., and Kimberly (Brian) Correia of North Attleboro, Mass.; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Virginia Gatley and Eileen Fehrle; and nephew, Robert Baldwin. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Lester in 1986; two sisters, Bernice Nenstiel and Emily Baldwin; one brother, James Ray; and a nephew, Thomas Keith. Visitation for friends and family will be held today, June 27, 2010, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Anna's life will be led by Pastor Dale Ostema at Central United Methodist Church on Monday, June 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Central United Methodist Church or to Munson Hospice.
