Arlene Schettek

Arlene Schettek, 87, of Maple City passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023 at Cherry Hill Haven.

Arlene was born on August 15, 1935 in Empire to the late Raymond Earl and Dorothy (Ziegler) Fritz.

Arlene graduated from Maple City high school in 1953 after earning her Varsity letter in basketball. She then went to work for Potter's Bakery and it was here that her love for baking began. She became quite a gifted baker and made countless goodies for her friends and family over the years. She made many birthday cakes, graduation cakes and even elaborate wedding cakes.

On June 1, 1957, Arlene married Paul Joseph Schettek. Together they shared many wonderful memories and over 60 years of love.

Arlene was an incredible mom. She was active with 4-H for many years. She was also a gifted seamstress and once her kids were out of school she took great pride in cleaning cottages around Glen Lake. She was a wonderful care giver and always put others before herself. She always made sure everyone was well fed as she loved to cook, can and bake.

Throughout her life Arlene loved animals, especially her granddogs. She was an avid bird watcher, and in later years she enjoyed watching the squirrels climb the feeders. She also liked to watch the family of foxes that would visit the farm as well as the deer that would meander on by.

She is survived by her children Robert (Deborah) Schettek, Roger Schettek, Denise (Jim) Martin, Judy Schettek and James (Sherry) Schettek; grandchildren Stephanie, Eric, Kali and Tyler; great grandson Theo; brother Dale (Dorothy) Fritz; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, parents, brothers Maurice and Raymond Jr. and sisters Norma and Opal.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11 am with visitation beginning one hour prior.

Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or to the Alzheimer's Association.
