September 23, 1931 — March 16, 2019
On Saturday, March 16, 2019 Arlene M. Tremain (Birkman), entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Arlene was 87, and enjoyed a wonderful long life. She was born in Traverse City September 23, 1931, to parents John and Gertrude (Poertner) Birkman.
Arlene lived her whole life in Traverse City. She graduated Traverse City Public Schools, class of 1949. She was proud to be a local, and it showed through her relentless pursuit of community service. She truly had a servant's heart. She helped make Traverse City a better place via her service through Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Traverse Pavilions, and of course through her tenure at local schools as a secretary (Just to name a few). Hailed as "Saint Arlene" she worked at Morgan McCool, TC Junior High & Sr. High, as well as the St. Francis Annex. In summers and in retirement Arlene loved to spend time on her beloved beach on Silver Lake with family and friends. She also loved cooking, crafting, knitting and baking.
Arlene is survived by her daughter Jan (Mark) Themm; sister Dody (Dale) Reinke; grandchildren John (Tamara) Tremain, Heather (Scott) Brinks, Ryan (Kseniya) Themm, Jeremy (Megan) Themm, Dustin (Jenna) Themm, Brittney (Dan) Zielinski; great-grandchildren Lula, Vega, Thomas, Lucas, James, Jaden, Jacaob, Daniel , and Luke.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years James W. Tremain; son Thomas Tremain; sisters Lois Jagush and Beverly Green; and her parents.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, Mar. 22, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple Street, Traverse City 49684. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service at church, AND Thursday, Mar. 21, 4:30PM-7:00PM, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City 49684. Interment will take place privately in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, or to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook SE no. 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, faithhospicecare.org/donate.
