Obituary

Arthur J. Christiansen, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025. He was born to Arnold H. Christiansen and Eileen W. Christiansen (Dietz) in Detroit, MI on December 7th, 1948. He left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Arthur was a man whose heart belonged to his family, friends, and the simple joys of life. He found beauty and fulfillment outdoors, whether on a quiet morning at the golf course, casting a line into still waters, or walking in the woods during hunting season. His love for nature was matched only by the warmth he gave to others.

Arthur will be remembered for his welcoming smile, his kind and thoughtful words, and the way he made everyone feel valued. His hugs were always punctuated by three gentle back pats, a small gesture that became his signature expression of affection. He loved nothing better than playing with his grandkids and great grandkids. He was an excellent writer and artist and would often sit for hours making pictures with the grandkids.

He is survived by brother, Jeffrey Christiansen, loving wife of 57 years, Nancy Christiansen (McCready) daughters, Amy (Bryan) Kuiper and Dee Mahaffey. His legacy also extends to his grandchildren Ryan (Camryn)Mahaffey, Dorian (Melissa) Ash, Elyse (Tyler) Bauerle, Christian (Katherine) Ash, Anna (Cole) Hobbs, Sarah Mahaffey, Jake Mahaffey and Rylee Mahaffey. He was also blessed with great grandchildren Kassie and Drake Baurle, Chase Hobbs and Arthur Ash. All who loved him will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Those who knew Arthur will carry with them the poetic reminders of his spirit: an empty tee glistening with morning dew, a deer quietly grazing on dew-covered grass with one less adversary to fear, and a loon calling mournfully across a distant lake. His presence was a gift, and his absence leaves the world quieter, though filled with echoes of his laughter and kindness.

Arthur's life was a testament to the joy of friendship, the strength of family, and the beauty of simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
